Today, I am going to talk about a shop called “Thai Amazake” <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

where they manufacture and sell AMAZAKE <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

that they fermented with rice Jiuqu or malted rice. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I call it a shop but actually, they do not have a physical shop <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

that you can walk in and look around <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

but it\u2019s a shop who only delivers the product according to your order.  <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

So, as mentioned earlier; in Japan, the \u201cAMAZAKE\u201d is said to be a drinkable IV drip. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Yep, you\u2019ve heard it right, <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

it\u2019s the \u201cIV drip for drinking\u201d<\/span> and is an original Japanese fermented food <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

that is highly effective for health and beauty.  <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It contains a high amount of vitamin B and amino acid. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And as the name AMAZAKE suggests, <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

it is sweet but contains no sugar. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Its sweet taste is a natural sweetness <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

that was produced during its fermentation process.    <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAMAZAKE\u201d means \u201cSweet SAKE\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

but there is no alcohol component whatsoever, <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

therefore it is also consumed by children <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

and by those people who do not fancy alcoholic drink.  <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, as it goes through a natural fermentation progresses,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

some alcohol components are produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

And as its fermentation process further progresses, it turns into vinegar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This shop Thai Amazake is owned by a Thai <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

who is very attracted to the delicious taste of AMAZAKE, <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

so much so that the owner couldn\u2019t help herself not making it by herself.    <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a similar kind of fermented food here in Thailand called [KHAAW MAK] <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

which comes quite close to AMAZAKE in Japan. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can find KHAAW MAK almost in any supermarkets <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

but their fermentation process has gone too much <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

and taste bit sour or the alcohol component <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

is a bit too high compared to AMAZAKE <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

and could be tasting different from the AMAZAKE. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I, when change my hat to a housewife\u2019s hat, often use KHAAW MAK for cooking. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It does a magic when pickling pork or chicken in it during pre-preparation.   <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ok, so back to the AMAZAKE talk. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So if you are wondering how I managed to find this shop Thai Amazake, <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

it was purely by an accident when I was looking for <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

where to get malted rice here in Thailand. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I searched all over the City of Bangkok from Japanese supermarkets to any shops <\/p>\n\n\n\n

that are carrying Japanese food ingredients<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but in vain and turned to my GOOD OL\u2019 Facebook and voil\u00e0! Hit “Thai Amazake”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I contacted the shop immediately via the Facebook <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

and managed to get myself some malted rice. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
