Hello, everyone I am Chifumi Maeda, a Japanese female president living in Bangkok.

Thank you, guys, for visiting this

“True comments from Japanese female presidents living in Thailand” blog.

Michelin 1-Stared restaurant,

J’AIME by Jean-Michel Lorain is what I want to talk about today.

We live in the neighborhood of the restaurant

and I think there are quite many French restaurant

and Michelin star rated restaurants are gathering in the area.

It seems that there are more good restaurants around here than ever.

Here are the French restaurants that I’ve wrote about before.

We had a set menu in the J’AIME by Jean-Michel Lorain this time

and I was impressed with the good taste of their cooking.

I will talk about this a bit later but they serve many dishes with Thai ingredients

but I was so astonished that the Thai ingredients can do so much for French dish as well.

For bread, there comes (from the top of the photo) olive oil, butter, duck fat, and macadamia nut dip.

Macadamia nut was something we never had yet and it was very tasty.

A 5 course menu (but will be 6 course if you want cheese).

We went for Wine pairing (1,400 THB).

The 5 course menu comes with canapé, Amuse bouche, Appetizer, Main dish, and desert.

There are 2 types of appetizers, and 3 type of main dishes that you can choose from.

While waiting for an appetizer, started with canapé Amuse Bouche is served.

Amuse Bouche:Sea pineapple, Kale and White wine

With champagne in our hand, we’ve enjoyed our canapé and Amuse Bouche.

Amuse Bouche was Sea pineapple (sea squirt)

but I am not too crazy about its unique taste and I know many people

who have the same opinion but,

it added an accent and to my surprise, I enjoyed its taste very much.

And then the appetizer followed.

You can choose the appetizer from 2 choices.

I went for Tiger Prawn.

It was a dish also beautiful to the eyes; it is an art I must say.

The sweetness of Tiger Prawn and the sourness of the dressing dances in the mouth.

Wine pairing is a white wine from Rhone region, southeast of France.

J'AIME by Jean-Michel Lorain

Very aromatic wine with fruity taste. Citrus flower like taste spreads out.

And what did my dear hubby chose? Foie gras of course. What else could it be….

J'AIME by Jean-Michel Lorain

Wine pairing is a white wine from Loire Valley in western France.

J'AIME by Jean-Michel Lorain

I asked him to let me taste the wine. It has a sticky texture with strong taste of the fruit.

It is a wine that stands strong with the strong fatty texture of foie gras.

Come to think of it, my hubby also had foie gras at Savelberg as well as at Le Normandie.

For the main course,

we both chose Wagyu Beef from 3 kinds. We had it cooked medium rare.

J'AIME by Jean-Michel Lorain

Wagyu originally is from Japan however,

there are types such as “Australian Wagyu” or “US Wagyu” depending on its breeding environment.

However, it seems that the taste of “fat” is somewhat different

from the Japanese Wagyu as well as its “meat texture”.

The fat melting on the tongue and as it does so,

its sweetness appears that it tasted just like what you would taste in “Japanese Wagyu”,

and my hubby also thought it was the Japanese Wagyu.

So we asked the staff where it is coming from and the staff replied, “Thailand”.

Really?! You could have fooled me.

It is Wagyu bred in the ranch in Nakorn Rachashima province, we were told.

Pepper was also produce of Thailand.

(We weren’t able to find out the province of origin.)

People in Thailand did not and still do not consume beef that much

and therefore the meat has a hard texture but my god,

this beef was so good that we thought it was coming from Japan.

We never thought that we would see the day that we can taste the same quality in Thai bred beef.

But of course, good ingredients cannot be served fully presenting their goodness to the maximum

if it wasn’t for the preparation technique of the chef.

Our sincere complements to the chef.

The wine paired with the Wagyu was red Chateau Carignan from southwest of France.

J'AIME by Jean-Michel Lorain

It was full-bodied wine with the scent of oak stood out.

Dessert was mille-feuille.

Crispy puff pastry and not too strong sweet taste whipped cream refreshes the mouth.

We’ve enjoyed the “French and Thai fusion” came on our plates with feeling of happiness.
