Hello, everyone I am Chifumi Maeda,

a Japanese female president living in Bangkok.

Thank you, guys, for visiting this

“True comments from Japanese female presidents living in Thailand” blog

Today, I would like to introduce “WORKSHOP Restaurant” on the Yenakart Road.

This restaurant is next door to the Cagette Canteen & Deli which I frequently visit.

I often pass by the WORKSHOP Restaurant on my way to the office,

but I’ve never entered the restaurant as I like Cagette Canteen & Deli so much.

It seems that WORKSHOP Restaurant opened in June 2020,

but I have never set my foot in the restaurant for about three years.

A few months ago, Mr. and Mrs. Hayakawa,

who were opening a Japanese restaurant “Kappo Yume” in Thonglor

were enjoying their meal at the WORKSHOP Restaurant that

I am going to talk to you about today.

Mr. Naoki Hayakawa, a Japanese cuisine chef,

is a culinary professional who served as the official chef of the Japanese Embassy in Thailand.

“Kappo Yume” opened by Mr. and Mrs. Hayakawa

As it is a restaurant where professional chefs say it’s delicious, so I went there.

After going there once, I became a fan of WORKSHOP Restaurant and since then,

I’ve been visiting there several times a month.

Redefining French Cuisine: A Culinary Review of WORKSHOP Restaurant

French Specialties by Chef Clement at WORKSHOP: A Must-Try

At WORKSHOP Restaurant, in accordance with the 6 policies that

I’ve mentioned earlier work directly with producers in and out of Thailand

striving to procure the best ingredients

and serve their guests with maximum sincerity as their motto.

Not only that the food is delicious,

but they are also particular about the ingredients and cooking methods

and consider customers’ health.

I feel that they are very good with

“adjusting the salt amount usage”

that brings out the original taste of the ingredients.

Thai people tend to prefer dishes with a relatively strong salty taste,

but at the WORKSHOP Restaurant,

I feel that the ingredients are cooked with the right amount of salt

to bring out the best flavor of the ingredients.

Chef Clement’s Recommended Menu at WORKSHOP: Don’t Miss Out

When I visited for the first time,

I ordered a lunch set because I wanted to taste the overall cooking state of the food.

In addition to the set menu, there are also à la carte menu,

as well as a Sincere Dining menu filled with the chef’s best cooking techniques.

My husband and I ordered 3 courses and we each ordered a glass of wine of our choice.

French bread and canapés are served at the starting of the meal.

Canapés. Left: Cheese. Right: tuna.

The canapes were cheese and tuna.

With a light texture and taste, expectations for our meals to come expands.

For the first appetizer of the three courses, I chose my favorite, the shrimp.

The appearance is vivid and beautiful,

and the voice of joy unintentionally overflows.

PRAWN MAYO

Shrimp is difficult to prepare with controlling cooking heat,

but it is cooked with an exquisite balance,

and I couldn’t help ourselves not to close my eyes and savor it.

Husband ordered Crab and Prawn Bisque.

It looks very simple at a glance but the moment

it was brought to the table, we noticed the smell of the elegant aroma of shrimp and crab.

And the main course for me was Confit Duck Leg, my favorite dish.

Confit Duck Leg

Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside.

The taste of the sauce is not overpowering

but is a delicious flavor that complements the duck meat.

My husband ordered Braised Beef Cheek.

It melts in your mouth as it was cooked slowly simmered.

pairing with red wine was perfect,

vegetables that came with had a strong natural sweetness,

and the mashed potatoes were excellent.

As for the dessert; I don’t fancy sweets

but the desserts at WORKSHOP Restaurant are moderately sweet.

Desserts are to be chosen from the a la carte menu.

WORKSHOP Restaurant, Bangkok

I went for Spiced Fig.

It was fig compote but it smelled like cinnamon,

so even for those who don’t fancy sweets can enjoy it too.

The ice cream was ginger ice and although it is ice cream, it was mouth refreshing.

My husband has a sweet tooth, and he always orders chocolate.

On this day, he went for Chocolate Mousse.

The Chocolate Mousse was not too sweet, so you can finish it without getting tired of it.

My husband has been several times to the restaurant

after we’ve visited for the first time,

and he says that the Chocolate Mousse is so delicious

that he must order it every time when he is there.

The first time we went there, we ordered a set menu,

but after that, we very often went for a la carte.

Here are some dishes that are my personal favorite from their menu.

“Crab risotto” that comes with plenty of fresh crab.

Crabs meat will smell bad when they get old or when you don’t handle them well.

Crab Risotto

This risotto has no bad smell whatsoever and delicious.

Stewed lamb meat is also a must-try dish.

The saltiness and sauce are well balanced, and it melts in your mouth.

In France, stewed dishes are home cooking meal.

Octopus carpaccio is also a delicious dish.

It has a simple and refreshing taste.
