Hello, everyone I am Chifumi Maeda, a Japanese female president living in Bangkok.
Thank you, guys, for visiting this
“True comments from Japanese female presidents living in Thailand” blog.
My birthday and our Wedding Anniversary is in November,
and we took a trip to Samui Island to celebrate the occasion.
We totally forgot that we are now in the rainy season.
Determining the Best Time to Visit Samui Island, Thailand
Bangkok has Hot season (March – April)
Rainy season (early May – late October), and the Dry season.
Samui island is located in south of Bangkok
and therefore the season differs a bit from that of in Bangkok.
Dry season: February – September (and March – April is the most hottest)
Rainy season: October – January (and November – December has the most rainfall)
That’s how the god has divided the season for Thais.
The best visiting season, among the tourists,
to visit Samui is said to be February – September,
i.e. the Dry season and especially February is the month
that has less rainfalls compared to other months
and the temperature is not too high which makes the life on the island quite comfortable.
The island gets tourist both from domestic and abroad in July – September.
The rainy season does not have rainfall all day long.
There is squall in the morning and in the evening however,
there can be some exceptional days in November – December,
in the middle of the rainy season when it can rain all day all night.
So, we went to Samui in the middle of rainy season where the blue sky never showed up
but it was very cool and comfortable.
In the morning and the evening were somewhat cool, or cold shall I say,
which I think that the rainy season offers a rather comfortable stay.
And now I’ve noticed that a best season depends on individuals.
My Personal Experience at InterContinental Koh Samui: An In-depth Review
We always stayed at The Tongsai Bay when we came to the Island of Samui
but they were closed at the time.
We’ve booked our flight already from last year
but the Corona pandemic postponed our plan….
And we weren’t allowed to change the flight destination….
So, we had to search for hotel to stay.
We thought that we should stay at somewhere we’ve never stayed yet on the island
and decided to stay at InterContinental Koh Samui
where it is on the other side of the island.
The hotel stands on top of the mountain behind Taling Ngam beach
where they call the hotel the Baan Taling Ngam (a house on the beautiful cliff),
and it is really so. The height difference between the highest area of the hotel and the lowest is 120m.
On the large 9 hectare land nests 6 swimming pools with different themes,
a villa cottage that gives you private feeling, and modern guestrooms in the hotel building.
In the same hotel that people are staying,
it gives completely different atmosphere depending on where you are.
And the beach, it’s a private beach one of my top favorite kind of beach.
Detailed Review of the Club Panoramic Ocean View Suite at InterContinental Koh Samui
Because we wanted to spend our time here on the island as comfortable as possible,
we decided to stay in at Club Panoramic Ocean View Suite that has a large balcony.
The room is the biggest room in the hotel and has the total area of 147 square meters.
Beach front villa which stands on the beach front was also quite attractive
but as I am a person who loves to sit in a bathtub,
I wanted to stay in the room where I can take a nice warm bath with panoramic ocean view,
so it was not a difficult choice.
There are 2 basins which I thought was very convenient.
And the bathtub is located further down there.
The amenities are ones from HARAN, the proud Thai brand.
There is a spa that uses the HARAN brand.
I had massage twice during my stay here.
On the clear day, you will be able to see a series of islands far away in the ocean.
And on such day, the sunset view must be something out of this world.
It was raining on and off during our stay and we weren’t able to see the sunset but,
taking a nice dip in a big tub with ocean view in front of my eyes was very relaxing.
The room is quite big with separate bedroom and living room.
Ant the room is also equipped with a large closet.
I concentrated myself in reading here with the sea sound as a BGM.
Club Lounge, besides our room, was the place where we spent a lot of time on this stay.
Exclusive Benefits of Using the Club Lounge at InterContinental Koh Samui
I’ve stay at many hotels and if and when there is a Club Lounge, I will, without any hesitation,
stay at the room where they have the access to the Lounge.
When I go to Japan on business trip, I quite often use the Lounge to work, read, and refresh.
And many of those hotel Lounges are located at where you can enjoy a nice view,
and if you think that the view from and nice and relaxing time in the lounge is included in your stay fare,
it is not expensive at all.
You can enjoy light meals and drinks at the Lounge.
At the InterContinental Koh Samui, they have Afternoon Tea service from 14:00 – 16:00.
We enjoyed our Afternoon Tea at where they are famous for being Instagenic.
Because it was not a good weather, it was cool and comfortable,
but we were told that on a sunny day, it can be very hot from the afternoon sun.
Afternoon Tea Menu changes daily.
Light meal at the Lounge in the InterContinental Koh Samui was nice
but the main restaurant serves very nice dishes.
The taste that you will not get tired of. I like to give high points for this.
And 20:00 – 22:00 in the evening, you can enjoy canapes and liquor.
Evening wind was quite cooling and we spent a wonderful time looking at the lighted-up pier.
If the weather would have been nice and sunny,
we would be very active in day time,
swim in the pool or walk along the sandy beach and be exhausted that
we need to go directly into our bed
but thanks to the rain we were able to enjoy the adult time on the island,
Unforgettable Experience at Baan Thai Spa by HARN in InterContinental Koh Samui
So, as it was raining most of the time on the island,
only things we did were reading, take a bath, or go to the Lounge.
But I’ve realized that they have a famous spa here in the hotel,
so I’ve decided to visit them. Visited them 2 days in a row.
It’s a spa located in a Thai style house. Built along the cliff.
In my 20th, I had no problem having 6 hours course
but now I am a fraction older and lost my younger day’s strength,
I cannot anymore receive long treatment.
I had massage on the first day and, scrub + massage on the 2nd day.
The massage you get while on your trip gives you a relaxing feeling
as the surrounding environments are different from that of the usual.
(We usually get our massage at our home)

Pro Tips for a Comfortable Stay at InterContinental Koh Samui During the Rainy Season
Stay at the room where you can enjoy the Club Lounge.
Inside of the building is quite cold and you definitely want to have a jacket over.
If you are a bath lover, stay in at 「Club Panoramic Ocean View Suite」.
「Club Panoramic Ocean View Suite」is conveniently located close to the lobby and the lounge.
If you want to stay at the beach front, stay in at 「Beach front Pool Villa」.
Villas are located quite a distance away from the lobby so the cart is a must. But it is very calm quiet.
